Mikayla and Brian celebrated their love this weekend with a fall-inspired Papago Golf Club wedding. The touches of steel and dusty blue, paired with the terracotta and white pumpkins were a perfect match for the mix of fall florals and pampas grass. This couple’s love for golf drew them to the course at Papago, but their love story started much earlier. You can see their story on their engagement blog!
As with all weddings, there are so many sweet and memorable moments we could write about. Themes of the day, decor and stylistic choices, or how sweet the mother-son dance was even though the power went out and the music stopped playing. But today, I would like to write about the origins of a particular phrase used by Mikayla and Brian’s family and the immensely important man that shared it with them.
go team
There was one individual who wasn’t able to be at Mikayla and Brian’s wedding in the flesh, but he was surely there in spirit. Mr. James Vessey, Mikayla’s dad. James passed away a few years ago but lives on through his children in the most beautiful ways.
Growing up, Mikayla and her siblings were taught that they as a family are a team. No matter what was going on in each other’s lives, they would support one another and experience life together. Before math tests, competitions, or sporting events, they would meet in the kitchen as a family and put their hands together.
“1…2…3… Go Team!”
With all hands in the center of the circle, Mikayla’s family would pump up whoever needed it that day. No matter what the reason. Today, for her Papago Golf Club wedding, the Vessey family had all hands in. “1…2…3… Go Team!”
Although this started as a Vessey family tradition, it didn’t stay there long. Brian never had the joy of meeting his father-in-law, but he too carries his love, support, and this phrase in his heart. He proudly wears it daily on his wrist and all the guys sported it on their tie clips. No matter what their last names are, this family is #VesseyStrong. All for one and one for all.
an unexpected gift
This phrase isn’t the only thing Mr. Vessey left for Mikayla on her wedding day. Ms. Ann, Mikayla’s mom had just finished helping Mikayla into her dress when she ran to the other room to grab a little something special. When she came back, she looked at her stunning daughter with tears in her eyes. She took a moment to catch her breath and placed a ring on Mikayla’s finger. A ring that her dad bought when she was born. Meant for this very moment. An unexpected gift…
moments like this
Mikayla and Brian, moments like this were far from scarce on your wedding day. But, the most beautiful part of it all? There are so many more “GO TEAM” moments ahead for you and your family and we are honored that we got to be a part of this one. We love you so much and we can’t wait to see where this chapter in life takes you. Happy #CONLEYEVERAFTER !!
