As women, it has become a habit of sorts, to lie to ourselves when we need to feel safe, stay inside our comfortable bubble, or not acknowledge the things that scare us in this life. One of those topics we often lie to ourselves about is beauty, boudoir, confidence, and empowerment. Some people just aren’t into the whole experience, and that is fair… but you can’t knock it until you try it, and we promise every woman who has dipped their toe in keep coming back for more because it is that life changing!
So… STOP! Stop telling yourself these six lies!
Lie # 1: I must be a certain size, look a certain way, be “skinny” to be able to enjoy a boudoir experience.
“I need to get rid of this pooch…”
“I just need to lose ten pounds first…”
“If I could only get rid of the cellulite on my ass…”
“Look at these thunder thighs…”
“I need to postpone, I have a zit…”
“I don’t have a sexy outfit…”
STOP! You are beautiful. I mean, seriously, unequivocally beautiful. You are. If you think you are alone in your insecurities, you must not know any women in this world! A boudoir experience is all about celebrating where you are right now and ALL THE BEAUTIFUL that we see when you walk into our studio. It’s not about the airbrushed, 5’ 11”, size 2 “beauty.” We’ve all heard the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. However, most of us are guilty of ignoring this when it comes to our own beauty. Don’t hesitate and think you need to conform to anything. Embrace and love who you are at this very moment! Your body is who you are. Your story. Your skin. Your heart. Your soul. It is amazing, love it. Cherish it. Honor it.
Lie # 2: This experience is too expensive for me to enjoy, I have other priorities.
First of all… You do! For sure, and that is totally understandable, BUT… nothing is too expensive for you to feel beautiful and confident in your own skin. Every woman who has ever worked with us will tell you so…
…
“Each time, I have to admit I get nervous about it; I am far from perfect in my eyes and as I get older struggle with loving my body. I showed up the day of the shoot and was instantly put at ease. Later, when I saw the photos from the shoot, I couldn’t believe it was me!!!! It is one the biggest self-esteem boosts you will ever feel – I looked gorgeous, and I really struggle with loving my body!!! I can’t thank Jes enough for making me feel so beautiful and so special.” –Rebecca B.

Second of all, let’s get for-realsies here…we all have something we don’t mind spending money on… that $5 cup of Starbucks each week adds up. Or what about that cute pair of shoes you just saw at Marshall’s? They were on sale, so you just had to get them, but they were still $60! We all know you’ll get a few good uses out of them before they get tossed into the back of your closet. Why not cut out the futile spending and buy something that will last forever? An experience that can never be replaced or thrown in the bottom of a drawer, no one can ever take it away from you. Doing a boudoir photo shoot will capture your beauty, sensuality, and inner sex goddess in a timeless way that you can admire forever and provide you with an experience that plays a huge part in your empowerment journey. So, take a few less trips to Starbucks, hold off on shopping for a month or two, and book your boudoir photo shoot! I mean, no one just picks up and goes to Italy or Paris. Nice things take some planning and saving! We promise it is worth it.
Lie # 3: I really don’t want to be naked in front of a stranger.
First of all, nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. Our society pushes control over women especially, and their right to be naked. Whether it be without clothing, or to be real and bare all emotion. We were all born naked and reserve the right to return to our original state, to be raw… REAL… and to enjoy expressing ourselves in our most natural and beautiful state!
However, there is no “boudoir clause” or contract that states you must be nakey! You have all the control over your boudoir session; from the clothes you wear to the poses you are photographed in. We are simply your guide to feeling sexy in front of the camera, your backup, your side kicks… your support. Besides, after a few “clothed” sets you may want to actually try some where you free yourself from clothing! There are also beautiful shots to be taken that imply nudity that you may enjoy as well!
Lie # 4: A boudoir photo shoot is too scandalous for me to actually do or share.
Since when does doing something for YOU need approval from your family and friends? While there is a taboo around boudoir photography, I always tell people not to knock it until you’ve tried it! Each boudoir photo session is unique to each woman. You can be as sensual, sexy, or naked as you want! This is an opportunity for you to feel sexy, beautiful and vivacious, in a way that works for you. From the outfits to the poses, a boudoir session is exactly what you make it! And if you want to be naughty and “scandalous,” you go for it lady. It is about YOU. Boudoir is not synonymous with porn or vulgar… it is a wide spectrum of sexy, and you choose where you want to be on that spectrum! We are just here to support your vision.
Lie # 5: I have no one to do it for or any milestones to celebrate…
Some boudoir sessions do begin with the notion of a milestone, anniversary, wedding, or birthday gift. While giving boudoir photos as a gift is something sure to heat up any occasion, in the end, it’s really a gift for you! Most of our clients say they have a little extra pep in their step and a renewed sense of self-worth and admiration. We all desire to feel beautiful, sexy, and empowered. What better way than to see yourself in a new light, from a different perspective than your dreaded mirror! Not to mention the whole experience, where you get to be pampered and beautified where your natural beauty is brought to light, and you get to feel amazing, because you deserve it! So, let’s celebrate the milestone of deciding to do more self-love!
Lie # 6: This is just a passing trend, it will be over. No one is really doing this… are they?
Unfortunately, our media and society have truly damaged how women feel about themselves. Women constantly have societal expectations shoved down their throats with Victoria’s Secret ads and catalogs, magazines, Facebook, etc. We need support from other women to lift each other up, cheer each other on, and compliment each other, because it is so very necessary in today’s world. In fact, there are groups with thousands of women who come together and support each other, and we have our very own you can join here! A safe space for women only, where we can share our photos, our insecurities, our experiences, as well as tips and tricks for feeling our most beautiful selves! We hope you join us, if you are a woman of course!
Each boudoir session is custom to your style; from what you want to wear to how much or how little you’d like to reveal. Things like age, body type, and sense of style are all irrelevant. Boudoir photography is about feeling empowered and familiarizing yourself with your beauty!
So… are you ready to stop lying to yourself? We think you deserve it.
