How has it already been six weeks since we brought Chopper home? This sweet little guy has changed so quickly, and I am so glad he lets me take these boxer puppy photos! I worry I’ll miss something. He keeps letting me document it all, so perhaps weekly blog posts are to keep up with his growing story.
Chopper is now a sturdy 16 pounds. He’s visited Dr. KC three times, completed all of his shots, and sleeps in his crate without a fuss. His eyes have shifted from green to a rich brown that still melts his mamma’s heart. His pink belly is now speckled with spots, and his oversized paws promise a big future. Every day, he learns something new.
Personality Unleashed
We suspected Chopper might be a bit more mischievous than our Moo Bear—but we didn’t expect this. He drags in slabs of sod, devours rocks and dead grass, throws back his head in full-blown tantrums, and steals shoes straight off our feet before bolting outside.
One emergency vet visit later, we discovered dirt lodged in his throat. Yes—he licks piles of dry dirt like they’re ice cream cones.
Growing Pains and Puppy Quirks
Despite his rapid growth, Chopper still thinks he’s lap-sized. He attempts to surf under the couch and was recently dismayed to discover he no longer fits through the front gate. He tried every slat—just to be sure.
Some quirks have faded: he no longer poops in circles or bats at the wind during car rides. But others remain, like his love of shower time and his adorable hiccups. He’ll cry for cucumbers, devour carrots, and beg for peanut butter with zero shame.
Life with Chopper
He adores sitting with Daddy during Madden, tug-of-warring with sheets during laundry, and cuddling at every opportunity. Lotion time is a party. And nothing makes him happy pee faster than Kate walking through the door after school.
Chopper knows sit, paw, down, speak, “shhhh,” come, stay, and kisses—though he decides when he’s in the mood to listen.
nicknames
The list of nicknames just continues to grow. Thankfully, he finally responds to his name, but he is also called: Chop Wood, Chop Chop, Choppie Chop, Bubbies.
