MEET MEG!

I’m Meg, a small-town gal with big time dreams! I’m so excited that you came to my little corner of the inter-web and hope you hang around to check out all the fun things MWP has to offer! But since you’re here to get to know me, I’ll get to it! I am a wife, fur-mom to five crazy critters, and Super Aunt Extraordinaire! I am a huge fan of spontaneous bear hugs, random acts of kindness, communicating via movie quotes & gifs, and all things mint green. I’ve always had a love of photography (something I picked up from my mama, whose camera is basically an additional limb), but I didn’t start to actually learn about the art until my cousin, Kristi (of Shoptini.com), asked me to snap a few pics of her for the fashion and style blog she was launching in 2015. Balancing a full-time teaching career and co-owning MWP with my bff soulmate, J, has its challenges, for sure, but I truly believe my experience as an educator has allowed me to approach photography from a different perspective: one that appreciates beauty in all its forms, values community over competition, and focuses on capturing the genuine emotion of all of life’s little moments.

chapter 1

Working in the lifestyle and wedding photography field requires genuine connection – connection between us and our clients, the people interacting front of our cameras, and the communities we are a part of. It all relies on forming meaningful connections. To build the trust needed for our MWP fam to divulge all their nitty gritty details and inner-workings to help us do their stories justice, it’s important for us to share our stories as well! After all, connection is a two-way street and one of our very favorite parts of our job! So keep on clicking to get to know Meg and Dave, and then head over to our Phoenix, AZ side of the site to learn more about Jes and Michael!

chapter 2

Transitioning from a college student to the real world of adulting is a funny thing - one that I thought I had all figured out. You see, I was supposed to move to Asheville, NC right after college. I had an apartment with one of my best friends (love you Liz!) and a teaching job all set up. I was ready to start this new phase of life. Unfortunately, my Jeep had other plans...namely to stop working. I had a decision to make: stick to the plan and move down to Asheville without a vehicle, or move in with my parents for a bit to save up for a car. Since Asheville is a mountain town, and the teaching job I had lined up was in the boonies, my choice was pretty clear - I'd stay with the 'rents for a while, THEN I'd move down to North Carolina to resume my post-college plans. Well, my plans to move to Asheville have not come to fruition (yet!), but fortunately for me, a momentary inconvenience led to me meeting the love of my life, Dave.

chapter 3

I was offered a job teaching at my alma mater, the perfect place to get my educational feet wet! The start of school was a blur–meetings to attend, new systems to learn, lessons to plan, co-teachers to meet…and that’s when it happened. I walked into E305 to meet Mr. Yohn with whom I would be teaching 10th Grade English. He was sitting in his chair facing his computer. As soon as he turned around to say hello, I remember thinking, well, crap, this is going to be trouble…all the air went out of the room, my cheeks were instantly flushed, I started stammering my words, and I’m pretty sure my pits were sweating uncontrollably (scratch that…my pits were DEFINITELY sweating uncontrollably). I was immediately smitten, despite my incessant denial. I never imagined he would be interested in me too. As luck or fate or whatever else may have it, Dave had also been secretly crushing on me, which of course I didn’t discover until months later, And thus, our journey began.

Chapter 4

chapter 4

Our proposal story is quintessentially us. Dave meant for it to be a sweet little moment, just the two of us, but in true Meg & Dave form, sweet quickly devolved into hilarity. Dave had just gotten a new job teaching & coaching at a different high school and we were both, admittedly, a bit anxious about the change. We had also just recently moved back in with my parents to save up money to buy a house (side note: Mom & Dad, thank you for always letting me crash with you while I'm saving money for adulting!!!). So we're sitting in my old bedroom after one of our first professional development days to start the year, when Dave starts talking about his new co-teacher and what a nice chick she is and how she just got married this past summer, which was good news for me, yadda-yadda-yadda...of course, my insecurity reared its ugly head, compelling me to yelp, "Oh yeah, why is that good news for me?!?!?! Because now you're stuck with me???" Not my finest moment. He very sweetly, very calmly sat down on our little computer stool at the foot of the bed (or so I thought) and replied, "No because I was thinking we could do the same thing..."
I was floored and completely unprepared for that to be his response! Remember my first reaction to meeting Dave? Multiply that by 1,000!!! The first words out of my mouth were, "Are you sure? Like, do you want to think about it?" Which he assured me he had already given it all sorts of thought...So, both of us giggling uncontrollably at my ridiculous reaction, go out to tell my parents the good news and to recount the proposal. It wasn't until this point that I figured out that Dave had not actually sat down to pop the question, but was, in fact, down on one knee. A mixup we still laugh about to this day.

Confession time: I am not a planner. My main objective for my wedding day was to show up and marry the man of my dreams. The rest was just background noise to me. Originally, we had planned on doing a destination wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico. However, after an unfortunate miscommunication with the planner we had been working with about the total price including airfare (which we were assured was...turned out not to be), we quickly adjusted our course and started looking for venues local to MD/PA. My mom, who, along with my cousin, aunt, & soon-to-be-MIL, basically planned our entire wedding (Mama, Kristi, Aunt Mad, & Ashley, we are forever grateful for all of your hard work in making our day amazing!!!), dived into helping us search for a new place to tie the knot. She found the Cork Factory Hotel in Lancaster, PA, which at the time had just opened & was the perfect mix of rustic exposed brickwork & wood beams with elegant lighting & decor! Also, having everything in one place (ceremony, reception, & sleeping accommodations) was clutch, the convenience of which allowed family & friends from all over the country to come & help us celebrate our special day!!! I'll be honest, the day was a blur, but I will never forget all the love, laughter, and excitement of that day!

Chapter 6

chapter 6

After over a decade together filled with moments of pure happiness, sheer hilarity, and profound change, I can’t imagine my life without Dave. He is my rock, my center, my shelter from the storm. But as amazing as all of that is, the true beauty of our relationship is in our balance. Where Dave is regimented and organized, I tend to lean more towards the “organized chaos” end of the spectrum. While I am more extroverted and gregarious, Dave is more introverted and reserved. Dave has a proclivity for punctuality but is geographically challenged, whereas I have a tendency for tardiness and am basically a human GPS. I am driven by emotions and lead with my heart, while Dave is driven by reason and leads with his head. We have a unique ability to bring out the best in one another, which is our most defining quality as a couple.

Chapter 7

chapter 7

Nicholas Sparks sums it up pretty well, “The best kind of love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.”

I am forever grateful that I have found that kind of love, and that it has created so many cherished moments in my life. It is my sincere hope to capture those distinct qualities and quirks that convey our clients’ love– whether families, couples, or love of oneself.

Love is love is love, and it is always worth celebrating.

Blooper reels are one of my favorite things of all time! I get super disappointed if we watch a hilarious movie that doesn't have a gag reel at the end. Bloopers just bring me instant joy!
