Peter and Lillie’s parents dabbed their teary eyes as a longtime family friend, Pete, spoke as the officiant at the ceremony. The sun was peaking through the dark clouds, leaving the chance of a thunderstorm a mystery. The breeze was warm, and the love and energy present in the midst of their dear friends’ back yard was palpable. Pete shared how he witnessed Peter and his brother, Adam, grow up from a very young age. He was there to celebrate all manner of family milestones, birthdays, and graduations. The most beautiful thing, however, wasn’t how Peter and Adam eventually gained some muscle to “their scrawny arms,” but how they both found love in this life. Adam found Amanda, and Peter found Lillie.
Pete shared some wedding advice given to him over 40 years ago. It consisted of a story of a pessimist, optimist, and realist. During a grand storm, the three tried to go out on a sailboat. While the pessimist was angry they even went out to the water, and the optimist just shared that everything would be fine. Then, the realist spoke up –
That is what marriage is all about, isn’t it? Adjusting to the ever-changing world while still journeying on the same path together.
We can safely say, Peter and Lillie, are the realist in this story. Every day they make the choice to stay on that sailboat together. They choose to adjust the sails around the new wind patterns, whenever they come.
This was evident when Governor Tom Wolf made an announcement just one week before their wedding day. He stated that due to the increase in positive Covid-19 test results, indoor gatherings would be limited to 25 people. Peter and Lillie had originally planned to celebrate their love at the Industrial Museum of York, and they were devasted when they learned that was no longer possible. They didn’t let it shake them though.
With the generosity of their amazing friends, Dan and Jenny, and their ability to adjust their sails, Peter and Lillie were still able to celebrate with their family and friends on their original wedding day, exactly two years after he proposed in Capri, Italy.
We love you so darn much. It was an absolute honor being by your sides on your wedding day. Thank you for trusting us to capture your day, witness your love, and for inviting us to join in on the party. Here is to a lifetime of happiness, adventure, and friendship!
