Tranquility with Heather Godby
I had the absolute honor of working with Heather Godby and Ja’Nice Ramos on a boudoir project at CIVANA Carefree this week. Ja’Nice is my newest team member and the best hair and makeup artist I have ever worked with. Heather, on the other hand, is this beautiful and fierce woman I had never met before. Just when I want to curl up in my yoga pants and work from the couch, behind my computer screen and become a hermit, amazing experiences like this bring me out of my shell. I have the opportunity to meet strong and beautiful individuals, inside and out. Heather is one of them. We laughed, joked, and shared personal stories about being moms and finding our place in this world.
Heather is a single mom of a ten-year-old little guy, working in the field of marketing, and she hasn’t been in front of a camera in some time. She was feeling nervous (like all of our boudoir clients do) and unsure about the whole experience.

“I am feeling excited, nervous and eager all at the same time!! It’s hard to put it into words exactly the thoughts going through my mind. As a woman, you start to over-analyze and over-think all the little things! Is my body ready for this? How will my pictures turn out? What if I mess up?!” –Heather
Heather is no different than any other woman to step in front of my camera. Fear sets in and our minds start spinning about the magazines, Instagram, what others will think, what we will think of ourselves… but the truth is boudoir is just about taking time for yourself, getting pampered, feeling beautiful, and falling in love with yourself. As moms, women, entrepreneurs, dreamers, hard workers… we need to love ourselves.
Don’t for a second think that this doesn’t apply to me as well. We all have our things and our insecurities. Need to respect the insecurities of others, lift each other up, and pull ourselves out of it by doing things that make us feel empowered. We might not love our bodies every second of every day, but if it isn’t boudoir, find something else that makes you feel beautiful and in love with yourself, even if just for an hour.
Heather did just that, and in fact, she started feeling inspired and ready for her shoot from the second we started planning together, with Ja’Nice! Sure, she was a little nervous…

When you looked at the back of my camera and giggled with excitement at how much you loved your photographs… OF YOU and your body in such a vulnerable state, it just filled the room with this powerful energy of girl power! I just loved getting to know you and your story. I loved watching you come to life in front of my camera, and I appreciate you as a human being. So much love to you and I hope you continue loving your body and yourself every time you go back to your photographs.

Notice the hair change? Ja’Nice stays on set with you during your entire shoot to make touch-ups along the way. She will even adjust your hairstyle with each look you have and assist in styling your outfits!
