Waterfront Engagement at The Island

If you were anywhere on the east coast last Monday, you know the tempest that blew through that evening. Well, we met our newest MaeWood couple, Lauren and Kolby, at The Island Restaurant at Flying Point Marina that day for some waterfront engagement photos. Yes, we DO like to live dangerously, though we did push the session up to beat the storms. That manic Monday turned absolutely magical as we captured Lauren and Kolby nuzzling into each other, frolicking through the sand, and playing with their sweet pup, Ember!

You & Me & Ember makes 3!

Lauren and Kolby’s story starts all the way back in high school, where Meg met them as well (Meg coached Lauren in soccer and had Kolby in class for two years!). They went to prom together in 2012 but drifted apart as people do sometimes when life takes you in different directions. Finally, our couple rekindled their romance when Lauren came home from college and Kolby reached out (on Tinder of all places). Recently, they got their pup, Ember, officially making them a family of three!

Making Plans

Four years, a positively precious pup, and a lot of life later, Kolby finally popped the question! Initially, he was concocting a BIG proposal with friends in tow to see the scene play out, but Lauren caught wind of his plans and told him that wasn’t what she wanted. Being the attentive boyfriend, Kobly listened and concocted a new plot to completely catch Lauren off guard!

Instead of an over-the-top spectacle of a proposal, Kolby opted to surprise Lauren in a way she would never see coming. On an ordinary day like any other, Lauren came home from her nursing job. She went about daily chores, totally oblivious that a life-changing milestone was about to happen. It was when Lauren was at the sink washing dishes that Kobly made his move.

When Lauren turned around, she found Kolby on one knee, the ring box open and outstretched. She was awestricken. It was intimate and understated and completely characteristic of them as a couple. It was perfect.
