– From childhood chums to med school sweethearts to almost man and wife –
You guys, we’re about to tell you one of the GREATEST of all compliments to our work. Not just as artists, but also as professionals. Ready?! Here it is: When friends and family members our clients love their experience with us and the resulting photographs so much that they want us to be a part of their important milestones! This really is one of our favorite feelings as generational storytellers. The feeling of being interconnected with our clients and their families, as visual chroniclers of their histories. Plus, we just plain love feeling like part of the fam!
So you can imagine our absolute delight when we received the following message from Mackenzie Magley & Mario DeYulis:
“Mario and I fell in love with your wedding photographs of my sister and brother-in-law (Adam and Janelle Mattis) and wanted you to be a part of our special day!!!”
Cue our unfiltered demonstrations of all the feels (happy dances, heart clasps, etc., you get the idea)!!!
Mackenzie then went on to tell us more about their love story. You see, these two lovebirds go way back to childhood. Tee ball teammates, in fact (so cute, we can’t even handle it!)!!! They started dating in high school and their love blossomed as they attended college and medical school together. After ten years, they decided to expand their family by four paws. On Good Friday, they welcomed their pup, Lui, to the family (more to come on Lui, we promise!).
side note
(Sidenote: We absolutely LOVE when you give us these details in your initial inquiry message!!! It is so, so helpful for us in preparing for our virtual coffee date/consultation meeting.!!!)
Skip ahead to the engagement story (remember when we said more to come on Lui…wait for it…):
Williamsburg, VA is very near & dear to the hearts of members of the Magley family. It was because of the family’s deep connection to Williamsburg that Mario decided to propose to Mackenzie there, but his inspiration for the how of the proposal was equally as thoughtful.
During a visit to the Colonial Capital one weekend, Mario planned to propose on a very special bridge in town with a legend that if you kissed your loved one on it, you will enjoy a lifetime of happiness together. How stinking sweet is he?!
hurricane Michael
Unfortunately for Mario, Hurricane Michael made landfall on the mid-Atlantic coast that very same weekend, and the famed bridge was under construction to fix damage sustained during the storms. Not to be dissuaded by a little adversity, Mario quickly sprung into action to adjust his proposal plans. He secured the ring to Lui’s harness & asked Mackenzie if she wanted to take a walk to enjoy the beautiful post-storm October morning. Though he couldn’t pop the question on the bridge as he originally planned, Mario waited for the perfect moment to bend down on one knee and, with Lui’s help, ask Mackenzie to be his wife.
We’re not crying, YOU are!!!!
In all sincerity, whether reading about Mackenzie & Mario’s love story, seeing their playful interactions caught on camera, or getting to witness their genuine affection for each other and devotion to family in person, one thing is for sure – these two were meant for each other. And we are just bursting with excitement to get to capture all the wedding fun in August!
Okay, now more on Lui. He may have tried to steal the show a bit, but he is adorable, are we right?! This sweet little family of three is starting a new chapter in their lives, and we are so honored to be a part of it! MacKenzie and Mario, we love you guys and we can’t wait to travel to you in August!
