They say, “home is where the heart is,” and in this case, “they” are totally right. This past weekend, we got to witness the marriage of two high school sweethearts from our alma mater, NHHS. Dr. Alicia Greene, a General Surgery Resident at Hershey Medical Center, & Mr. Dan Ebsworth, a Senior Tax Accountant at Aprio Cloud said “I do” in the meadow behind Alicia’s childhood home, a place now forever etched on all our hearts.
It was an absolutely beautiful July day, with partly sunny skies and an unseasonably cool breeze. The weather was so mild you might have thought it was Fall if you didn’t know better! After several wagon loads of guests cascaded down the wooded path to the ceremony site in the meadow, the final tractor chugged to the bottom of the hill. When the rig came to a halt, the groom, groomsmen, and bridesmaids descended the wagon’s stairs and assembled into lines in preparation for the procession. The rows of guests suddenly went quiet in anticipation of the ceremony that had been over two years in the making.
Our groom, Dan, shared close embraces with his Groomsmen and Grooms-ficiant (a word we totally just made up – Groomsman + Officiant), while a red Lincoln slowed to its final position just beyond where the wedding party stood moments before. In the seconds between the vehicle stopping and the door opening, the crowd became a human wave, slowly rising from their seats to welcome the bride to the ceremony that would take her to her forever.
In that final moment, before Alicia’s laced bodice peeked around the side of the car, Dan’s whole being transformed. He attempted to quell his enthusiastic smile as tears started streaming down his cheeks. His face told the entire world just how much he cared for the person on the other side of that vehicle, and how excited he was to finally be marrying his person! The tears welling in Alicia’s eye showed she felt the exact same way.
Watching Alicia and her father stride down the aisle together, there was a momentary feeling that no air was left in the meadow. Everyone had taken a collective deep breath. Time stopped, if only for an instant. Then, the crowd exhaled together. Time resumed. Alicia made her way to Dan, they exchanged their vows of unending devotion to one another, their Grooms-ficiant gave a blessing, and rings were placed on proximal flanges of the fourth metacarpals! That’s doctor talk for ring fingers. Most importantly, two became one.
The rest of the evening was a midsummer night’s dream. The Greene’s already gorgeous backyard was converted into a theatrical scene, with elegant florals gracing every surface and stringed lights softly illuminating the area. Jubilant dancing and wedding shenanigans commenced until well after dark when our two lovebirds ascended a long, garden staircase lined with hundreds of their most favorite people in a sparkler send-off to rival any Shakespearean scene. It. Was. Everything!!!
Alicia & Dan, we adore you both so much! Since the first time Meg caught you two canoodling in homeroom, we knew yours would be a love for the ages. Since then, you’ve grown so much, both as individuals and as a couple! We’re so honored to capture some of life’s most cherished moments and can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!
Dan’s brother, Dave, said it best in his Best Man speech,
We are so grateful for you and for being part of this day, Alicia & Dan!!! Cheers to a lifetime of love, laughter, & lots of golf together!!!
